So glad this could help! It is kind of its own language. ;) You're inspiring me to add to the page, too. I've neglected it for awhile. :)

I LOVE your military lingo page! I'm a military newbie (a little over a year as an Air Force girlfriend) and I recently moved in with my Air Force guy. As it would happen, I too am in Ohio. Anyway, I love this page because I'm constantly having to stop my boyfriend in the middle of his sentences and ask what the heck that weird acronym means. Hehe :)

Yea. And they think that because Uncle Sam boxes up our stuff, that moving cross-country is easy and completely free, too. But that neighbor? That's rich. No pun intended. But seriously, really?

Leaving comments all over the place today, but my favorite commissary story is the (civilian) neighbor we had once who actually thought we got our groceries for FREE from the commissary, that all I did was show my ID card, then walk around and fill up my cart. She was telling me one day how unfair it was that we got all our food for free while she was the one paying taxes. Yeah, right.

Michele, I finally wrote a post addressing your question! I asked my husband to answer it, too, for a sort of HIS and HERS discussion. Our answers are here: http://budgetsarethenewblack.com/2010/06/buy-or-rent-if-military.html

I would love to get an update on what you guys decide to do!

Michele- I have been thinking about your comment! I was going to reply here but I plan to do a whole post about it instead; I have so many thoughts on the subject. I'll let you know when it's posted.

We also are military. We just received housing on Little Creek NAB in VA. The lease is for 6 months then month to month. During this time we would like to look for a house and possibly buy a home. It would be nice to apply our BAH to something of value. But there are so many 4closures and 4sales it seems crazy to buy. We choose Norflok b/c we felt we would have a better chance of staying longer in one area. We have been in the Navy now for 12 years and plan to retire at 20 or 24 yrs. What do you think about buying the house while being in the military?? Have you ever lived in the Norfolk area and do you have any recomendations for areas to live?
