  1. You got to live in Aviano? Oh so lucky to go to Italy. We did two tours in Japan, and tried for years to get to Washinton state (Whidbey Island), but every time the detailer saw “Washington,” we got sent back east to the other Washington. Ugh. We did spend two years in Key West, which was a lot of fun.

I’m guessing you were on active duty as well when you met your husband? Me too; he was my instructor for two weeks in some school I went to. We started dated after that and the rest, as they say, is history (33 years of history, actually).

    Love, love, love this blog!

You’re starting to feel like a kindred spirit. Yes, we met while both active duty, enlisted. We were both going to DLI, the language school in Monterey where we’re getting ready to move to again! So we’re going full circle. A 16-year circle, so far. :)

  2. I lived in Würzburg for two years in the 90’s and have some good memories there. I’ll never forget going up to the Festung Marienberg to celebrate New Years, swimming at Dallenbergbad, hanging out at the Leighton barracks, and listening to Radio Gong (106.9)… good times!

Hard to believe the base is no longer there, isn’t it! We keep thinking we’ll go back someday to visit our old stomping grounds, and to show our oldest where he was born. I imagine a lot has changed…

  3. Cool, sounds like you’ve been everywhere!

Where’s your favourite place to live? Ohio? =)

Actually, we don’t have a favorite! Every place has its good and bad points. We still don’t know where we want to retire when we grow up. 😉

  4. Ok, I have to ask when you lived in Wurzburg. My sister who currently resides in Derby, Kansas, graduated from high school there in 1969, probably before you were even born. This was while my father was stationed in Schweinfurt. He retired to Wichita which is where all my sibs live in or near. I’m up here close to Topeka now, still close enough to hop down once in awhile. Fortunately my husband’s mom lives in Wichita too, so we get to see both in the same visit.

We just lived in Wuerzburg for a short time, 1995-96… Our 14yo was born there. But something even weirder: my sister lives in Derby, too! We grew up in McPherson. Such a strange, small world. 😉

We fell in love in Wuerzburg in 1982. Great city:>)
Enjoy Monterey again. Take care of those airmen. My daughter had a very rough time there because the chain of command was pretty poor five years ago. Most of her language class ended up doing things like “fork lift operator” or got out because the command just did not support the language. Tough for a Army family to watch:<(

  5. My husband is AF and we lived in Aviano from 94 – 97. We loved it and would move back tomorrow if we could. My son was born in Naples.

  6. I always like finding bloggers near places I’ve lived…I was born in Ohio (Urbana) and proudly will spend my final resting place there with a big chunk of my family. Hope you enjoy your stay and don’t forget to celebrate sweetest day…
