Got Boxes?

in Moving

We haven’t done a do-it-yourself move in many years. I knew there was no way I was going to pay for the boxes we need –  $2-$5 for each one when you buy them from a moving company.

I drove around for awhile yesterday and checked a couple of places for used boxes, but only managed to pick up a couple from Kroger’s. But I scored when I stopped at Elder-Beerman, a department store similar to Macy’s or JCPenny’s. Their shipments come on Thursdays, and all I had to do was show up mid-morning and take my pick from the empties.

Look, boxes!

These are times when I love my van. I packed it full, five-year-old and all. Peter got quite a kick out of it.

Now that I have boxes, I suppose I have to start packing…

I just moved a week ago and ohhh, so many boxes! I got some from my dad’s work and had a few stored. I feel like now that I have them I should just save them!

Sometimes your friends may surprise you. I just helped a friend out not too long ago who needed some boxes for moving. I gave him like 20 perfect moving boxes for free!

Cool pics, way to pack! :)

Craigslist is a good source for free boxes as well. People who moved and unpacked want to get rid of them.

The liquor stores here often have lots of boxes for the taking – they are small-ish so pack books and heavy items well. Good Luck!

Nicole- I actually tried a liquor store and they were surprisingly miserly about giving up their boxes! Also, most of them had their tops removed. I had thought I would score some good ones there for packing glassware, but oh well.

We recently moved and I refused to pay for boxes at Home Depot. Thankfully, I got a lot of very large boxes from people on FreeCycle.org and also at the Dollar Stores around the area. Picked up enough to pack the entire house!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I hate moving. And I can not WAIT to move out of this house. Maybe I can take a little vacation, and the man can do it all. Yeah.
