Creating an Allowance System for Our Teenager

I do think it’s important for kids to start learning to manage their own money while still under their parent’s roof. That being said, I’ve never been keen on the idea of paying my kids to do chores that I believe they should do simply because they are a part of the family and therefore a contributor to the running of the household.

So I made up  my own allowance system for our teenage son Conner. Go on over to Mommysnacks.com if you want to read about it. Or even if you don’t. You know, just because you like me and want to support me in my guest-posting endeavors.

Also, I’d really like to know what you think about the system; what system you use for your own kids; what has worked for you and your family — and what hasn’t.

Naturally, being me, I had a lot to say on it. Andrea posted the first part of my post today, which introduces the allowance system. Next week (I believe) she’ll follow up with the part that talks about how it’s worked for us since we implemented it last summer.

Saw your post on MommySnacks. Well done :)

Our boys are a little young yet, but I will certainly keep it in mind when we are ready for allowance.
