My husband wanted to go out to eat to get some Porkies from Logan's. He was so tired of chicken! We also took a getaway trip, just me and him, for a couple of days. It was great!

My sister's husband is in the air force. She lives out in TX while we live in GA. He's been doing 4 months deployment, 4 months working at home, 4 month deployment etc... My sister has no kids and I agree with the inviting over for dinner or to watch shows at night or whatever interests you/her. Also, weekends are the toughest for her since she works during the week and can keep busy, but is more reminded when its weekend and not much to do. We sent some movies, candies, baked goods, and magazines over to him while he was in Kuwait. He wanted a big steak dinner and burritos when he returned.

@Mysti: My friend in Iraq always writes home for more cocoa powder/mixes and hard candies. The latter is YMMV of course, my friend is just really vocal about his No Skittles or Starburst rule as the candies sort of melt and meld together. And paperback books, they pass those around the troop/squad.

No, it would not be out of line!

Just two things that come to mind that soldiers often request: individual Gatorade packets of powder and beef jerky. Both are highly mobile and great for the ucky water taste and the salt and protein needs in the hot desert.

As for his wife left behind... Maybe just invite her over for dinner now and then? Like I would say to a single-type, "Come on over to my house for some free birth control! You'll be glad when it's time to go back to your own quiet home!"

Hi Hubs!!! I gotta tell ya....the apple fritter pic....well...doesn't EXACTLY look that appetizing. But maybe it is better in real life.

Since we are not a military family, no homecoming story. But more of a question for those of you who are military. Our neighbor is being deployed to Iraq for a year in June. Any advice on things we can do for his wife who will be alone (no kids)? Also, would it be out of line to send him some care packages while he is away? And what should be in there?
