But They’re for a Good Cause! (I’m not eating them all, honest!)

At a whopping $3.50 a box (a box that has also shrunk in recent years), buying Girl Scout cookies is not for the faint of heart. (Or at least, not for the light in pocketbook.) But I decided, Hey, sometimes you gotta live a little.

And not only are they for a good Girl Scout cause, a bunch of them are for a couple of my special troops overseas as well.

Who can argue?

(By the way, the photo of The Hubs was taken on his last deployment, in Afghanistan. ) (The photo of his niece? Well, let’s just say she’s a hard-core Marine helicopter mechanic the real-deal you don’t wanna mess with her Semper Fi HOO-RAH!)

Not even half of those boxes of cookies are from me, by the way. My friend Tina (whose daughter sold them to me) donated some to The Cause, as did her sister, who happens to be in the Navy.

How cool is that: Troops supporting Troops!

I posted The Hubs’ deployment address on my personal facebook page and sort of half-kiddingly announced that not only was it Girl Scout cookie season, but that his favorites were the Thin Mints. I think more than a couple of people took note…

Hey, Hubs, you might be swimming in some cookies soon :) (Try to make them last more than 24 hours, eh?)

All Told – I spent $42, including the boxes I kept for me and the kids.

I just picked them up this afternoon, and already? Two boxes gone. Easy come, easy go…

I’ve been feeling under the weather, with what I think I will call Snow Depression. Anyone relate? Another friend told me she thinks she was suffering from it, too, so I know I’m not crazy. Then today the sun came out! It felt so good. But you know how you start to feel that scratchy tickle in the back of your throat? And you just know you’re about to get a doozy of a cold? Yea.

And yes, mom — I’m drinking lots of fluids. Some of them are even water…

Just kidding! Far as you know… ;)

Oh, and if anyone is interested in sending Girl Scout cookies — or anything else — to some Marines in Afghanistan or The Hubs and some troops in Kyrgyzstan, email me at jolynatbudgetsarethenewblackdotcom and I’ll get you their address information!

Wow, you got your cookies early. As cookie mom, I have to pick up our troops order on March 4th. My neighbors keep asking me when they come in (they are ready after such a long winter). We had a dad deployed a few years back, and they asked us to send cookies, but because of the heat, we could onlys send non-meltable cookies. We will be sending more off to the troops this year.
Enjoy reading your blog. God Bless.

hahaha. The first thing my hubby asked for when he got to Kuwait was girl scout cookies. Thin Mints and Do Si Dos specifically. I put a call out on my facebook page and have 3 friends from across the country that are donating them. He and his buddies should be very happy in a few weeks.

$3.50 a box; that’s a deal! They’re $4 a box here in SoCal.

San Diego girl scouts offer an option to donate a box to the troops that they then distribute. The program is cutely designated “Operation Thin Mint”. I always buy them some cookies as well.

What a great idea!! But what is it with the Thin Mints? I’m partial to the peanut butter options myself ;)

I’m preparing myself right now to get 5 little beauties bundled up to sell boxes of cookies in front of Wal*Mart.. it’s a cold day… but these little ones live for this!!
I agree.. I find them pricey and shrunk… but thank you for thinking of us and for the soldiers!!
