We got tickets to go see Dave Ramsey! We’ve been talking about it for the last couple of days, and then today on Facebook I saw that Dave Ramsey was offering 1000 discounted tickets to his live events… Instead of $40, each ticket was just $9.99! I snatched those up, I tell you what.
With service fees, two tickets totaled $25.98. An interesting note about ordering the tickets online: true to Dave Ramsey form, you could only use a debit card! No credit card option. Classic.
Now we just have to get ourselves to the event in Indianapolis on time. Right now the plan is to have our *newly turned* 14yo (his birthday was today!) babysit his younger two siblings, with a neighbor as a backup in case of an emergency. It will be a long evening, and I am a little nervous about us going out of town and leaving the kids. But thank God for cell phones. They’ll have dinner, movie with popcorn, and the bedtime routine… All of which Conner is perfectly capable of handling.
I figure we’ll throw about a $20 financial incentive at him to make it official and help him to take his responsibility seriously. He has no idea what a bargain he is. I remember babysitting at his age and much younger and getting paid a pittance. Kids these days — babysitting can really rake in the bucks! If we didn’t have an older child to babysit, quite frankly, I’m not sure we could justify doing this.
Although I’m quite certain by the end of the evening I will be convinced that the motivation of seeing Dave live will be worth its weight in gold. Of course I’ve read his book, “The Total Money Makeover.” I discovered it last Spring, which is why we even started this whole debt-free snowball, thing. The Hubs started to read it, but he quickly became overwhelmed with reading for his Master’s class and with work in general; he told me he was on board, just give him the Cliff’s Notes and he’s good. I’m excited for him to hear the whole message in “Dave Ramsey Speak”, so to speak.
I’m so confident that this will be worthwhile, in fact, that I got two additional tickets for some friends. They are also a military couple, and the husband is getting ready for a 365-day deployment… I pray that Dave Ramsey’s message will be even more of a blessing to them as it has been for us.
